1. Website maintenance sends important information about your business.
Modern web design makes a great first impression. It signals to visitors that your business is up-to-date and assures them that your business is still active. A website with an outdated design can negatively affect both customer retention and new customer growth.
A modern website tells visitors:
- You are open for business
- Your website is safe to shop and spend time on
- You are invested in your brand image, and you’re in it for the long haul
Remember, functionality is just as important as design. A large part of website maintenance involves updates to plugins, themes, and core CMS files. If you are not tech-savvy be sure to speak with your web developer before installing any updates.

Today’s current open-source content management systems have increased a website’s lifespan. Sites with the ability to update plugins and themes result in a website that can adapt to upgrades in internet browsers as well as platform changes. In fact, if your website was built in 2010, or even before, it may still be online today. The question is: should it be?
Is your website secure?
Developer updates now decrease the likelihood that your site will stop functioning, which is great. However, the longer core files, plugins or themes exist in the world the more time a hacker has to discover and exploit weaknesses. The newest website themes are built with the knowledge of the latest security issues. As web designers, when we choose a theme for your new website, we make it a point to never purchase themes that have not been updated in over 6 months.
Is your website ready for a redesign?
Let’s imagine you are the owner of that website that’s lasted 6 years. Your website made it through compatibility issues with the new platforms of iPad, iPhone, androids, it even survived the exodus from flash. Support for Joomla 1.5 has officially ended. It was originally released in January of 2008. Customers running this older version can expect to be contacted from RGB Team Web in the next few weeks. What should you expect in the mean time? Will your 1.5 site will stop working? Your site will continue to work as it always has. However, Joomla’s developers will not be releasing new versions for Joomla 1.5, so you can not receive bug fixes or security fixes. In addition, most components for the Joomla 1.5 are no longer available and hosting platforms may become expensive because your site would need to live on a legacy server. For this reason, it’s recommended to migrate away from 1.5 as soon as possible. Our recommendations will include an upgrade to Joomla 3.2 or when released Joomla 3.5. This move will ensure your website is optimal for security and for the recent browser versions and mobile devices that have been introduced since 2008.
